Viking Houses
About our Viking Houses
At Lockerby Composite School, all students (on their first day of classes) take part in Lockerby’s ‘Viking House Sorting Ceremony,’ a yearly tradition that is held in our Auditorium. At the ceremony, students are sorted into their respective Viking Houses and assigned their homeroom classes for their Grade 9 year. Students will remain in their Viking Houses throughout their time at Lockerby Composite School, with each Viking House being composed of students, teachers, faculty, and staff – allowing all members our school community to be a part of something bigger beyond the our classroom walls. Of course, each Viking House has its own set of distinct principles and attributes. These principles and attributes (that are driven by the Viking students and staff within it) are foundational for all Vikings to be able to engage in their classes, build good character, exhibit kindness, promote school involvement, showcase acts of leadership, demonstrate our overall Viking Values, and embody being a good classmate and mentor to others.
Throughout each school year, our Viking Houses:
- create a positive culture for our school community;
- create a sense of belonging for all Vikings;
- develop stronger collaborative relationships amongst our student body;
- build character throughout school years; and
- promotes a continuous sense of pride for all Vikings that will last throughout their high school careers.
