About Online Safety
The world wide web is an indispensable resource for students, teachers, and parents alike. At Lockerby, we realize that students in particular may be vulnerable to some of the risks that exist online. We have strategies in place to help protect them from these dangers, not the least of which is an entire unit dedicated to online safety in the grade nine STEP Exploring Technologies curriculum.
Privacy
Parents can play an important role too. There are many resources available to help ensure continued safety and security. Click on the image to the right to visit “myprivacy, mychoice, mylife”, a site sponsored by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Cyberbullying
https://mediasmarts.ca/parents has excellent information about cyber-bullying. Parents and students are encouraged to read the information.
Online Publishing
Anything you publish could eventually be read and seen by anyone. Even though you may think that only certain people are able to access your information, pictures, or videos published, you may be wrong because we do not have complete control over it once we write, print, send, or post something. You never know who is looking over your friends’ shoulders, or if those friends might take the content, spread it around online, or use it against you.
