Lockerby Presents Hygge Mental Wellness Toolkit
This is Child and Youth Mental Health Week, an opportune time for Lockerby Composite School to focus on all things‚ “Hygge” (pronounced hue-guh).
On Thursday, May 10, 2018, Lockerby Composite School will introduce Grade 7 students in Rainbow Schools to the Hygge Mental Wellness Toolkit. Students will participate in a variety of interactive workshops and presentations at the school at 1391 Ramsey View Court in Sudbury.
The day will begin at 9:40 am with keynote speaker Wali Shah, who uses spoken word poetry and storytelling to address topics of interest to teens, including mental health. In 2014, Shah was named one of Canada’s Top 20 Under 20.
“Stress and anxiety are two of the most significant concerns among school-aged students,” says Principal Runciman. “The workshops and presentations will give students tools they can use to develop resiliency.”
He adds: “In Danish culture, the word hygge is synonymous with cozy contentment and a feeling of well-being. Child and Youth Mental Health Week is the perfect time to bring a little Hygge into our lives.”
The Hygge Mental Wellness Toolkit has been made possible with a Ministry of Education Student Voice strategy SpeakUp grant and a Wolves United grant. Lockerby Composite School thanks both sources of funding for their contribution to student success.
